Sainik School Kodagu Celebrates 77th Independence Day

Sainik School Kodagu celebrated the 77th Independence Day with utmost patriotic fervour and enthusiasm on 15 Aug 2023. The event witnessed the presence of distinguished guests and an array of captivating activities, marking a memorable day in the school's history. The esteemed Chief Guest for the occasion was Air Vice Marshal R V Ramkishore, VSM, LBA Chairman, Sainik School Kodagu. His presence illuminated the event, symbolising the unwavering commitment of the armed forces to the nation's growth and prosperity. Adding to the honour was the attendance of Command Education Officer Group Captain Shakti Kumar, who graced the occasion with her notable presence.
The celebrations commenced with a poignant wreath-laying ceremony at the school’s war memorial by the chief guest paying homage to the gallant souls who laid down their lives for the country's freedom. An elegant march past was put up by the cadets led by the parade commander Cdt Aditya Singh. The disciplined and precision-loaded march past put up by the cadets was also counted for the Inter House Drill Competition.
The crowning moment arrived with the solemn Flag Hoisting, as the tricolour soared high, symbolising the spirit of freedom and unity. This was followed by a captivating Cultural Programme that showcased the talents of the young cadets, reflecting the rich cultural diversity of India.

The event also served as a platform to recognise and honour the dedication and excellence of the school's staff. Mrs Prathibha Kalyani, TGT Hindi, received the Principal’s commendation for her exceptional contributions to the institution's academic prowess and growth. Acknowledging the academic accomplishments, cadets who scored centum in Class X Board Examination, AISSE 2022-23 were felicitated, with their respective subject teachers receiving well-deserved cash awards as a token of appreciation and motivation.
The culmination of the event was marked by the harmonious rendition of the National Anthem, echoing the spirit of patriotism and unity that the day symbolises. The resonance of every voice united in pride and gratitude filled the air, reminding everyone of the sacrifices that paved the way for the nation's independence.
AVM R V Ramkishore, VSM, The LBA Chairman generously contributed ₹3 lakh to Sainik  School Kodagu, further bolstering the institution's resources and demonstrating his commitment to its growth and development. Air Vice Marshal also inaugurated Obavva Enclave, A total of 24 No’s GE quarters, marking a significant expansion of residential facilities at the institution. This development reflects Sainik School Kodagu's dedication to enhancing the living standards of its staff and their families.
In his speech, addressing the cadets and staff, the Chief Guest of the Day highlighted the importance of disciplined life and the opportunities available in the armed forces. In a succinct yet poignant ceremony, Sainik School Kodagu paid homage to the sacrifices of the past, celebrated the achievements of the present, and laid a promising foundation for the future. The 77th Independence Day celebration stood as a testament to the school's unwavering commitment to nurturing disciplined, knowledgeable, and responsible citizens of India. Mrs R Hemabindu, Shri Jagannath, DDPI, Kodagu Dist, Khenpo Karma Tsering and Khenpo Tenzin Yeshi, The Buddhist Scholars from the Monastery, Bylukkuppe, Mrs Priyanka Kannan, Officers posted in the school, NCC PI Staff from 19 Kar Battalion and the school, ANOs, staff and cadets were present on the occasion .

National Reading Day - 19 June 2023

The National Reading Day was celebrated at Sainik School Kodagu on 19 June 2033. It is to commemorate the death anniversary of the great persona K M Panicker, who dedicated his life to promoting the culture of reading, that we celebrate National Reading Day. Administrative Officer Wing Commander Prakash Rao inaugurated the function by lighting the lamp. Vice Principal Squadron Leader Manpreet Singh was also present for the event. Miss Midhaa Tahani, an avid reader, aspiring writer, and child prodigy was the guest of the day.

The cadets showcased various cultural programmes in front of the August gathering. Storytelling, reading cards, a skit on 'When books speak', song, etc. were held. There was a group discussion by the teachers on the topic 'Why we read and why you should read?' 'The chosen one' where a teacher had to present a book review spontaneously if their name comes up in the lucky draw added beauty to the event. As part of the National Reading Day celebrations 'Best Reader Award' and 'Best Library Notebook Award' were given away to the winners.

The National Reading Day was a successful event owing to the cooperation and support of all the cadets and teachers. Hopefully, events like this would motivate the cadets to take on reading as a habit.

Sainik School Kodagu Observes Kargil Vijay Diwas

1. Sainik School Kodagu commemorated the heroic spirit of the Indian Armed Forces on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas. The event held on 26 Jul 2023 was a solemn tribute to the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the Kargil conflict and a celebration of India's victory in recapturing the strategic positions from the infiltrators. The day commenced with a wreath-laying ceremony at the school's War Memorial, where the Officers posted in the school, Army, PI staff and NCC ANOs paid their respects to the martyred soldiers. The entire gathering stood in solemn silence, reflecting on the significance of the day and the sacrifices made by our soldiers. The whole assembly served as a poignant reminder of the supreme sacrifice made by our soldiers to safeguard the nation's integrity and honour.

2. Lt Col (Retd) PS Ganapathy, Mahavir Chakra from 8 Mahar Regiment was online and was the guest of honour for the special assembly. The Chief guest addressed all the cadets and recounted the valour and indomitable spirit of the soldiers during the Kargil conflict, inspiring the students and attendees to embrace the values of courage, patriotism, and selflessness. He also presented his anecdotes and his own experience in Srilanka while fighting LTTE in Jaffna and other areas.

3. A PowerPoint presentation highlighting the chronicles of the Kargil War and the courageous actions of our armed forces was presented by the cadets Shreyas and Mourya of class XI. The presentation sensitized the audience about the hardships faced by soldiers in extreme terrains and the unwavering determination with which our soldiers accomplished their mission.

4. Col G Kannan, Principal, Sainik School Kodagu addressed the cadets and motivated them to instil a deeper sense of patriotism, a better understanding of the armed forces and the challenges they face in defending the nation. Through this celebration, the school reinforced the values of patriotism, courage, and sacrifice among its cadets, fostering a deeper appreciation for the selfless service rendered by the Indian Armed Forces.
