Sainik School Kodagu Observes Kargil Vijay Diwas

1. Sainik School Kodagu commemorated the heroic spirit of the Indian Armed Forces on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas. The event held on 26 Jul 2023 was a solemn tribute to the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the Kargil conflict and a celebration of India's victory in recapturing the strategic positions from the infiltrators. The day commenced with a wreath-laying ceremony at the school's War Memorial, where the Officers posted in the school, Army, PI staff and NCC ANOs paid their respects to the martyred soldiers. The entire gathering stood in solemn silence, reflecting on the significance of the day and the sacrifices made by our soldiers. The whole assembly served as a poignant reminder of the supreme sacrifice made by our soldiers to safeguard the nation's integrity and honour.

2. Lt Col (Retd) PS Ganapathy, Mahavir Chakra from 8 Mahar Regiment was online and was the guest of honour for the special assembly. The Chief guest addressed all the cadets and recounted the valour and indomitable spirit of the soldiers during the Kargil conflict, inspiring the students and attendees to embrace the values of courage, patriotism, and selflessness. He also presented his anecdotes and his own experience in Srilanka while fighting LTTE in Jaffna and other areas.

3. A PowerPoint presentation highlighting the chronicles of the Kargil War and the courageous actions of our armed forces was presented by the cadets Shreyas and Mourya of class XI. The presentation sensitized the audience about the hardships faced by soldiers in extreme terrains and the unwavering determination with which our soldiers accomplished their mission.

4. Col G Kannan, Principal, Sainik School Kodagu addressed the cadets and motivated them to instil a deeper sense of patriotism, a better understanding of the armed forces and the challenges they face in defending the nation. Through this celebration, the school reinforced the values of patriotism, courage, and sacrifice among its cadets, fostering a deeper appreciation for the selfless service rendered by the Indian Armed Forces.

The Inter House Quiz Competition for the academic year 2023-24 was successfully held on 22 June 2023 at the Kuvempu Multipurpose Hall. The competition witnessed the active participation of four houses: Katari, Cariappa, Subroto, and Menon. The quiz encompassed eight challenging rounds, namely General Knowledge, Geography, Military History, Science, Latest Inventions, Computer Awareness, Sports, and a thrilling Rapid Fire round. The cadets displayed great enthusiasm throughout the event, making it a highly competitive and engaging experience.


Each house carefully nominated their top four cadets to represent them in the competition, leading to a strong lineup of participants. The quiz was conducted with utmost professionalism and expertise by Mr. Y V Ramana (TGT- Social Science) and Mr. Dada D Kusanale (TGT-Science) as the Quiz Masters, who formulated a diverse range of questions across various subject areas. The participants showcased their knowledge and skills, impressively answering the majority of the questions. The audience also had the opportunity to actively participate and win exciting prizes by providing correct responses.


Katari house emerged as the champions, demonstrating exceptional speed and accuracy in their responses. Their remarkable performance in the Rapid Fire round allowed them to secure the coveted first position. A closely contested tie-breaker round ensued between Cariappa house and Subroto house for the second position. With their swift and accurate answers, Cariappa house secured the second place, while Subroto House secured the third position.

The event was graced by the presence of Wg Cdr P Prakash Rao, Offg Principal, Sainik School Kodagu, as the esteemed Chief Guest. Sqn Ldr Manpreet Singh, Vice Principal, Sainik School Kodagu, honored the occasion as the Guest of Honour. Mr Sushant T Y (Librarian) rendered his technical support for the event, Mrs P Parvathi (TGT- Mathematics) and Mr N Subbarangaiah (TGT-Science) served as the tabulators. Mrs Kavya H M (Lab Assistant) served as the Time Keeper, Cadet Arnav Gupta from class VIII-B performed admirably as the Emcee, skillfully guiding the program with confidence and poise. Cdt Rakshan of class VIII-A presented the Welcome speech, setting a positive tone for the event. The vote of thanks was presented by cadet Chinmay class VIII-A expressing gratitude to all involved. The program concluded on a patriotic note with the National Anthem, evoking a sense of unity and pride.

The presence of the Senior Master and the entire academic staff further elevated the significance of the occasion, fostering an atmosphere of support and encouragement. The Inter House Quiz Competition served as a platform to showcase the intellectual prowess and camaraderie among the cadets, promoting healthy competition and knowledge-sharing.

Celebration of International Yoga Day at Sainik School Kodagu

The 9th International Yoga Day was celebrated with enthusiasm at Sainik School Kodagu on Wednesday, 21 Jun 23. This celebration has effectively facilitated the dissemination of the significance of practicing Yoga for overall health and well-being and enduring a sustainable lifestyle among the cadets of the school.

In order to highlight this year’s theme -‘Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, a plethora of activities and programs were conducted. An essay writing competition on the topics 'Benefits of Yoga' and 'Importance of International Day of Yoga' was conducted. 84 cadets from Class VIII participated in the competition. A poster-making competition for the cadets of Class VII was conducted as a part of the celebration. The cadets and staff actively participated in the events.

The day began with 577 cadets and all staff members participating in the mass yoga demonstration from 0600 to 0640 hr., based on the common protocol recommended by the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India. After screening a video on the common protocol for performing Yoga, APTC Stallin Sales demonstrated various yoga asanas for the cadets and the staff. In his session, he also explained the precautions to be taken before performing or practicing yoga asanas. Cdt Siddhant administered Yoga Pledge with a resolve to make Yoga an integral part of their daily life. The yoga display was followed by a speech by Cdt Shourya highlighting the importance of Ashtanga Yoga and its benefits in leading a balanced life and overall personality development.
